Calling All Travelers/Vacationistas!

17 Mar

I’m writing this blog post, because I am hoping that the blogging world (and beyond) can help my Love and I decide where to go on vacation this year.  I’m asking for two different categories, the first is where we should go this year, 2014.  This vacation spot needs to be in the United States.

The second category is more versatile.  I’d like suggestions from everyone on the best places to go, and the most awesome things to see, in the entire world.  Mind you, we’re not world travelers, so safety should be a concern, but if you’ve been somewhere and seen something amazing, I want to know about it.

In short, I’m looking for places that are both exciting (stuff to do) as well as beautiful and/or historic.

Please help, and share, and comment with your experiences.  And don’t assume that because it’s world-renown, that I’ve already thought of it!  Short of Vegas, NYC, and London, I have no clue where might be great places to visit.

Current US destinations under consideration are:

Vegas

New York City

San Diego OR San Francisco (or both?)

Current International Destinations are:

Even in death, we are able to find beauty when we look outside ourselves.

So, I had a great weekend at the beach, even though it was cloudy and rainy most of the time.  I did manage to get a few decent pictures, though, so without further ado:

Am I ‘Officially’ An Artist Now?

31 Aug

So, a friend of ours came by last night, and she’s been telling me for a few weeks now that she had something ‘up her sleeve’ regarding my art, and has been very excited about it while at the same time leaving me in total suspense.  She has finally shared what the big secret was, and she is opening up an art gallery-like business, but instead of just being art, it will have all sorts of artistic mediums, including jewelry, etc., and she has asked me if I would be interested in being one of the artists whose art they will be displaying on the walls (and for sale)!

I’m extremely excited about this, and it means I will have to pick out, print, mount and frame several pieces.  No one except my mother has ever wanted to display my artwork before, so I am very excited about this opportunity!

It will surely be a few weeks or months before the work is hung, but when it is, I’ll be sure to post a picture of it!

That’s all, I just wanted to share that bit of exciting news with all of my wonderful followers and friends!

Edit Results (Part 2)

24 Aug

I also snatched a picture yesterday to edit. I didn’t want to use any that I couldn’t let people know I’d used (random pics from people who I don’t follow & vice versa), so, Angela, I hope you don’t mind that I also took the liberty of editing one of the photos you posted here. If you like it, feel free to download it, or if you  would prefer me to email it to you, just let me know.  (On the other hand, if you hate it and would prefer I take it down, I’ve got no problem doing that, either!)

Pity Party Inside (and free photo edit offer)

23 Aug
Angry Penguin

Angry Penguin (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Okay, so, I wrote the following long, whiny, self-pitying post just because I can… but at the end, I came up with something to take my mind off of my ‘despair’ and that was to edit other people’s photos, because I find it to be fun to do.  My request to you is, if you have a picture of someone (yourself, your kid, whatever), I’d like to edit it for you.  I’ll edit them/it, and post a few on my blog with before/afters.  You might love it, or you might hate it, and either way is okay.  IF anyone decides to take me up on my offer, just let me know where to find the picture… I’m just going to go randomly copy people’s pictures and edit them, anyway, so why not get in on the action?  ^_^  (If you like it, you’re more than welcome to copy/keep/reuse it however you like… I’ve been considering offering this for a small fee at some point in the future, so if you’re curious what I can do, here’s your chance to get it for free)

*******

Some days I just get so angry.  I feel completely retarded (Note that I’m using this as a verb, not a noun.  Look it up.) by everything and nothing at all.  There’s so MANY things I want to do, see, experience, learn… but can’t.  Sometimes it’s because of money, sometimes it’s because of time, sometimes it’s because of other people, but some days it always seems that there is nothing I can do to make things better.

I mean, I try.  I try very hard to do things to help, to improve my ‘lot in life’ so to speak, but nothing ever seems to work.

Some days, the frustration just takes over, and I’m angry.  Impotently angry, but angry nonetheless.  I say impotently angry, because nothing I do as a result of my anger works, either.  Continue reading

The Woman Behind The Keyboard

18 Aug

aka, Meet the Author

Hey, guys!  I just thought that perhaps it was time to give you all a peek behind the ‘curtain’ so to speak.  Give you a face to put with the words.  (Photos at the end of the post)

I’m not especially good at talking about myself, but I’ll start with the basics.  I just turned 33 recently.  I don’t have children, and I don’t expect to at this point.  I was married for a little over 5 years in my early twenties, and divorced by 27.  Nothing wrong with the guy, other than he just wasn’t the one for me;  I was in love with the idea of being married, and jumped the gun.  Currently, I am working on two years with a wonderful man who I adore very much, and we live together in a home we rent not far outside of Richmond, VA along with a housemate that he’s known since high school. Point Me In The Right Direction?

17 Aug

Hi, guys.  I’m sorry to put this out here on you, but I really don’t know where else to turn.

As you see, I just posted about my art and my decision to donate 25% of my proceeds to charity/acts of kindness.  What I need your help with (in the form of suggestions, tips, pointers, etc.) is how to get people interested enough in my artwork to want to purchase it?

I figured already that I would need to have matted (at the minimum) copies of several pieces to show prospective buyers, but what else can/should I be doing to help generate more sales?  My town doesn’t really have a lot of festivals and things where starving, unknown artists can set up a table and peddle their wares (or if they do, they’ve kept the secret really well!)  I already plan to create a website, also, as soon as I (again!) make enough sales to cover the cost of a domain name and the services of a website designer.

So how about it?  Anyone have any ideas on how to help me generate sales?
