About

This Blog:

As far as content, you will find it runs the gamut from opine, art, photography, the state of humanity (and/or its lack thereof), rants, highlights of other blogs/bloggers/artists, to random musings about whatever happens to be on my mind at the moment.

I have another blog, but it is pretty content specific, and I wanted a place where I could post more random things that I felt were share-worthy, but didn’t fit into my other home.  I’m pretty laid back and have been accused of having a good sense of humor, but I emphatically deny it as filthy, hate-mongering lies.  Everyone knows there is no place for humor, silliness or good times in blogging.  This is serious shit.

The Blog Author:

As for ‘about me’ for real; I’ve started my climb to forty, I don’t have (and don’t want) kids- not that I don’t like them, I’m just pretty set in my ways, and jealously guard my free time.  I’m divorced but happy in my relationship and would like to marry him one day if he’ll have me.   I like to write, and fancy myself an amateur photographer/artist.  Currently I don’t have a job (and am not looking for one, unless you would like to buy my art, that is), so I can spend an inordinate amount of hours pounding out nonsense and drivel for our mutual amusement, but I probably won’t.  You’ll be lucky to get 3 or 4 posts a week.  The rest you can pick up as we go along.

I need to get jobless. Too dang busy with 2 kids, a full time job, writing, wife, blogging, and the occasional dart to the restroom. I feel like I’m trying to do some really fast dance, you know, a fandango, to music that has the tempo doubled.

Well, I’m lucky in that regard. I don’t have a ‘job’, OR kids, so I have a lot more free time than most people. I do make some art, but that’s about it.

So the least I can do is spend some of that time spreading kindness… but remember, showing and teaching kindness to your kids is just about the biggest act of kindness you can do… since I don’t have kids, I that’s one act of kindness that is out of my reach. 🙂

And don’t think I didn’t notice the use of ‘fandango’, LOL! (Although I will admit it took me a minute!)

        Ima gonna get blocked!

I figure that in this day in age, people are raising their kids to be spoiled, self-centered, unspanked brats that will grow up to be not much different.

Someone’s got to populate the world with intelligent and well-raised people.

No, I stay very busy. I see too many people that are content to sit about an stagnate. Couchpotatoes and such. Not me, I have programming projects (my line of work), I write music, play the piano (if my keyboard hadn’t kicked the bucket anyway), attempt and fail at doing art.

Writing a novel has been quite an experience so far. Almost written 200 pages. Interestingly, the end point of the book seems to move further and further away as I write.

I hear ya on the kid thing… I’m not a mom, but I’m an auntie, and I brook no nonsense when it comes to respect from my nieces and nephews. I figure people giving their kids everything they want are doing them a major disservice in the end, because once they reach the real world, they’ll be in for a very rude awakening. But I can raise my pretend kids any way I see fit, LOL!

Wow, that is pretty busy. I also do art, and on either Monday or Tuesday (can’t remember which day I scheduled the post for) I’ve got a post coming out about my art, it will be called “Art With A Heart”, and it talks about what I’ve decided to do regarding the money from my sales… if I ever make any, lol.

I tried my hand at novel writing, but I get stuck anywhere from 10 – 60 pages in every time, stumped about where to go next, lol.

Have you tried outlining or pants-ing it. I find that I have to do both. When wrote it by the seat of my pants to start with, with only vague ideas of a series of storylines and no idea where to start. About a quarter of the way through now, I know where I want to be at different times in the book and upcoming events, but I still have to pants it between here and there. Kind of a mixture of outlining and pants-ing it. One of the big things is to just sit down and write, whether you think you got something or not.

I usually start with an extremely vague idea and go from there, letting my story unfold as it will, thinking ahead to what I want to happen, but leaving the details up to the characters.

My biggest problem is that I usually write about stuff I know little about, and since I hate to do the tedious stuff, like research, I usually run out of knowledge fairly quickly, LOL.

I guess that’s why blogging is working for me. I can do the small amount of research I may need for a blog post pretty quickly, if I need any at all. It’s not long enough to bore me, I guess.

I know how tedious research can be. My book is based in the medieval era. Tedium has been my best friend at times on this project. I re-wrote 4 whole chapters from being narrated by me to being narrated by one of my characters.

Usually though, the research gives me some wildly good ideas that stir my motivation. If not, I just have to focus on something that I want to write, and write it instead. I have a scene of a council meeting right now, been dreading it because it sounds boring to write.

But, I’m determine to finish the book. I do a lot of edits after I finish a chapter. I like to look back at what I’ve done and accomplished and like it. I don’t see how others can leave everything behind in a rough draft state. I would think that the book sucked the whole time I wrote it.

And you’ve touched on reason #6,582 of why I can’t finish a novel, lol. I edit and re-edit as I write, because I can’t stand leaving unsatisfactory work behind, either! But in doing that, when you show something to people and they say “That’s good for a rough draft” it just knocks the wind right out of your sails… or at least, it does for me.

I don’t let people influence the wind in my sails. Authors always have room for improvement.

I started this blog to share my story, someone suggested that I should. I don’t get near as many reads/critiques as I would like, but most of them have been good.

Then again, I approach my first book as if it were a practice book. If it sucks to other people, I don’t care. I just want to write something that I like. If it comes out not as good as I hoped, oh well, look how much practice I got in. You live and you learn. The next one will be better. Then maybe I’ll cry when someone says its a great rough draft.

I find I can greatly reduce the amount of disappointment I experience in my life by preparing for the worst, but hoping for the best. Then I’m covered no matter what, lol.

I’m sure it’s great, especially since you’re not like me, and actually take the time to research your subject matter in detail for your novels.

I’ll be checking out your blog soon. I try to go through my reader every day, so I’ll be seeing your posts since I’m following you now 🙂

You might have to show me some examples of your stuff.

Another suggestion I have would be to try writing short stories, if you haven’t done that before. Its a really good way to get better at writing and you don’t feel so attached to them. Not like the time and love you’ve poured into a novel.

Originally, when I started out, I thought I would never have the time or ideas to write short stories. They actually come along pretty easily if you are looking for them. It only takes one semi-good idea to make it go somewhere. I’m working on my second short story. I’ve entered my first into a contest, planning on entering both of them for a November contest as well. I’m a lot more reckless with them than with my novel.

Well, one of the super-duper short things I’ve written is on here somewhere… I think it was titled ‘Soul Shells’ or some such nonsense, lol. I made the title up on the spur of the moment, since it didn’t have one.

I will have examples of my art on the post… I do photography (mostly botanical) and then digitally alter it. I think I might have slapped some of the wrong pictures up in the post, because I have several versions of some of the pictures, but they do give a general idea of my style. It will be posting on the 19th of this month.

Botanical huh? Like flowers? In my writing I’ve used a lot of symbolism with flowers. They seem so easy to use for symbolism, not that anyone will catch that. Maybe you should add the symbolism to your pictures, so I can just refer them to your blog for pictures and symbolism in my book. LOL

I’ll look around for your short story. Honestly, I feel like the majority of blogs don’t give two fiddle sticks about whether their blogs are organized. Guess I’m the exception since I do web development as a profession.

To be honest, my blog isn’t very organized, lol. I post about whatever strikes my fancy, and since I’m not too good at web design, I’m stuck with whatever WordPress decides to do with it.

The shorty-short story is here: http://wp.me/p3zuzx-a1 (at least, I hope that works, lol) It’s not my most shining example of creativity, but I happened to run across it one day in one of my notebooks, and decided, “what the heck?” lol.

Yourcomment made me want to drop you a hint. This stuff is in my ebook btw =P, if you were to follow the blogs under introduction, welcome, and blog tags every 24 or 48 hours you will gain about 50 followers a week. If followers is your goal that is easy, they will even comment but it is like sifting sand. The more you sift the more diamonds you find, it takes effort and yes some smarts as to what tags you search… but I created my blog in January and the only number addition is my small 400 Twitter followers. 😉 Hope that helps and if you wish further advice I would be happy to give just by email preferably. -OM
