Often we hear it said that the opposite of LOVE is HATE.
Please allow me to disagree.
For the true opposite of love
Is Apathy.
For the opposite of that which holds us in thrall
Is not to care
About it
At all.

Your words hit a little too close to home for me. I think Apathy cuts deeper than Hate…because with Hate at least you still care enough to spend the energy in that emotion. Apathy is a complete emotional, spiritual, intellectual cut away from the other soul’s energy.

Agreed, which is why I consider it the opposite of love.
Love cares. Whatever you love, matters. Conversely, whatever you hate matters, too.
It is only the things we are truly apathetic about that arouse no concern in our minds or our hearts.
(Although it wasn’t my intention to hit close to anyone’s ‘home’ with this! I sincerely hope it was an ‘enlightening’ hit, rather than a ‘hurtful’ one!)

hate, vanity, and apathy go hand in hand. People cannot be wholly give to all three, but they can be, in part, influenced by each.
I prefer to stick with Love, Faith, and Hope. Neither of one limits the another. We have an infinite capacity for each.

Agreed.
I’ve been trying very hard to ‘upgrade’ myself in the latter three areas lately.
I still need a lot of work, but I have faith I’ll get there, eventually.
Baby steps.

This is so very true. I think apathy is much scarier than love or hate – at least both of those emotions imply some emotion. ~And the opposite of life is not death, it’s indifference.~
