A Good Man Is Hard To Find…

I lightly touched on some of the things that have been going on with me while I was away from writing, but I failed to mention the awesomeness that has been going on over here from my partner, my best friend, my lover… my soul mate.

Last week, he got off of work early.  He came home (unannounced) to surprise me, and surprise me he did.  He scared the shit out of me, lol.  I thought someone was trying to break into the house.  The door opens, and there he is- lunchbox in one hand, and half a dozen pink roses in the other.  He steps in, says, “I’m home, baby!” and holds up the flowers.  I launch myself toward him, wrap my arms around his neck, and promptly burst into tears.

It was the first time in my 33 years of life that a man has brought me flowers for no reason at all, and only the second time in my life a man has brought me flowers from an actual florist shop.  To say I was overwhelmed would be an understatement.

You have to understand.  Every other relationship in my life, I’ve tried to explain to my partners that doing things like bringing flowers, or a card, for no reason at all have tremendous meaning to me, but it never seemed to sink in, not with any of them.  By the time he and I got together, I’d given up.  I’d never even mentioned it.  Time had proved, again and again, that it was a waste of my breath to try to make them understand just how meaningful that a ‘This is for you, for no reason other than I love you’ gift is.  Yet, here he was.  Standing in the door, holding a half-dozen roses, completely bewildered and exclaiming, “I didn’t mean to make you cry! What’s wrong? What is it, baby?”

I finally managed to sob out a response along the lines of, “Nothing’s wrong, they’re beautiful and I love them… and I love YOU!” along with a soggy laugh and a few more tears.

Today they’re a sad, drooping, dying mass of overripe vegetation, but I can’t bring myself to discard them yet, no matter how ragged they look.  They’re mine, and I intend to keep them on the table until every single petal has dropped off of the remaining three roses in the vase.  The other three I took out of the arrangement and hung in the spare bedroom to dry, so that hopefully I can have them around for a long, long time.  I should have thought to do that with at least one of them on the day he brought them, but I couldn’t bear to disturb the arrangement.

On top of that little bit of awesomeness, he also informed me a few days ago that I had a surprise coming on the 16th (tomorrow).  He wasn’t supposed to tell me what it was, but because I was pestering him to buy something a little pricey for his children as a surprise for them, he felt compelled to tell me that we couldn’t because he’d already bought a surprise for me and it was coming on Tuesday.  Being himself, it was impossible for him to keep his mouth shut and not tell me the surprise before he was supposed to (Christmas is torture for the poor guy, lol), but since he told me that way, he now can pass the responsibility for him spilling the beans on to me.  Which I will totally accept, because I’m getting a FREEZER!  YAY!

Now, I’m sure some of you are sitting there scratching your heads, wondering why I’m so excited to get a freezer, but I cook dinner for him every night.  That means that I need to have a decent amount of space to store a good choice of meats, out of season veggies, etc. and the little freezer above the fridge just doesn’t cut the mustard.  Add to that the fact we have a housemate who also needs freezer space on occasion, and it’s just a mess.  Not to mention pretty dangerous to open the freezer door most of the time, lol.

So, tomorrow I’m getting a freezer, and today I have cleared everything out of the kitchen, swept and mopped the floor, and even washed the wall behind where the freezer will go, as well as the wall behind where the table was, because it was looking terribly grubby.

All in all, I have to say that I love that man of mine more than I ever thought possible.  He makes the good things even better, and the bad things never seem quite so bad with him to lean on.  It is my sincerest hope that each of you find someone to love and be loved by, who brings you as much happiness as I have found.  Lord knows I waited long enough for it… -grin-

As it is now 6p.m., I have to go shower as well as have dinner fixed before he’s home at 7:20. So… it’s off I go.  Until next time!

In celebration of my new freezer, my related articles are all about nifty stuff to do with it!  If that Strawberry Freezer Jam is the same stuff my mom made when I was younger… it’s going to be AWESOME!

I lucked out with my man too and hes done stuff like this for me before. Though hes never bought me flowers! I remember when I first moved in with him his freezer was the size of a semi large box of cereal and we had to put a weeks worth of feeders in it(For our snakes). Now we have a decent freezer in the fridge and two deep freezes in the house. There’s one in the barn too but I’m pretty sure it doesn’t work. We just put buckets of feed in it so we don’t get a rodent issue. Stocking up on food is a godsend. I’m working on getting pressure caner and dehydrator so I can put food away in other ways as well in case of power outages.

Yes, when I was at home, we had the freezer over the fridge, two small (5 & 7 cu.ft.) chest freezers, 1 large chest freezer (the really big kind, that you could fit like, two bodies in, lol) and a stand up freezer (they’re about the size of a normal fridge/freezer combo, except all freezer). So to go from that, to only the freezer above the fridge was extremely difficult for me. I’m so happy that he finally heeded my pleas for more freezer space!

My husband of 11 years proposed in bed by asking for an Omlette lol So I know all about it. My husband didn’t rub my back when I was carrying our 10lb 6 ounce son, or rub my feet, but he would shave my legs in the bath because I was too pregnant to see my feet and while he slept through my labour of our first son who was 10lb 1os premature, He drove to the supermarket at 2am in thick snow because I craved Apple pie, lol My husband might not be Casanova, but he gets me. He loves my faults and he embraces my crazy with aplomb. He is my bestfriend and when he brings me chocolate or pjs he found on special he knew I’d love just coz……..I love him even more He farts when he shouldn’t, drops more food on himself more than my 3yr old, but he’s all mine haha
